pH and Water

Without water, all life would cease to function.  You can live for weeks with little or no food, but you can survive only a few days without water.  Water provides an environment in which cellular reactions take place; it is used to regulate the body’s temperature; it dissolves and transports nutrients into the cells; it enables the excretion of toxins and metabolic wastes; it maintains blood volume; it lubricates the joints and provides the cushion in the spinal discs, which enable ease of movement.  There is virtually no function or reaction within your body that can take place without the presence of water.

Your body weight averages between 50 to 65% water.  If you weigh 100 lbs., for example, 50 to 65 lbs. of that 100 lbs. is due to the water inside you.  You lose water whenever you breathe, sweat, urinate and defecate.

Although there is water in the food and beverages you ingest on a daily basis, it is critical for you to drink an adequate amount of pure water in order to replace the water you lose.  Most people fail to drink enough water to replenish the water they lose, though, and develop conditions of chronic dehydration.

Fereydoon Batmanghelidj, M.D. discovered that many of the degenerative processes of the human body are expressions of the body’s needs for water.  In his book, “Your Body’s Many Cries for Water”, he cites medical histories of individuals suffering ulcers, asthma, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, chronic fatigue, breast cancer, impotency and depression, who responded to increased intake of water, pure water (at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day).

In reference to arthritis pain, he states that:  “The pain occurs because there is not enough water circulation to wash out the local acidity and toxic substances. Cartilage is a gelatinous living tissue, the cells of which like to live in an alkaline environment. The alkalinity of the medium is dependent on the flow of water through its substance – water that would wash the acid away.”

The quality of the water you drink is just as important as the amount of water.  Water straight from the tap, although in most cases it may be free from pathogens, is not of sufficient quality to increase your level of health.  Chlorine and chloramines, which have routinely been added to municipal drinking water for over 90 years (per the EPA’s website), is known to be carcinogenic (cancer causing).  It is illogical to expect water containing contaminants which cause cancer to have properties necessary to reverse disease.  Although Dr. Batmanghelidj is correct in his discoveries that water will enable the body to heal, logic dictates that providing the best possible water for that healing is crucial.   Alkaline, ionized, restructured water is highly recommended.

The following report, by Dr. Hidemitsu Hayashi, MD, guides you through a thorough understanding of the benefits of alkaline, ionized water.
